Hello my friend. Welcome back to Walking Together. I'm so glad you've joined me today. Before we begin, take one slow breath. As you breathe, invite the peace of Christ to settle your heart. Have you ever watched an orchestra before a concert begins? For a few moments, everything feels noisy, different instruments warming up, different sounds, no harmony. Then the conductor steps onto the podium. Almost immediately the room becomes still, one person takes their rightful place, and everything begins to come together. I've often thought that's a beautiful picture of today's verse. Listen to these words from Paul Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. That word rule is fascinating. It doesn't simply mean to exist, it means to govern, to decide, to direct. Paul is saying allow the peace of Christ to become the ruling influence within your heart, not fear, not anxiety, not anger, not uncertainty, his peace. That doesn't mean difficult circumstances disappear. Paul wrote these words while experiencing hardship himself. The peace of Christ isn't the absence of problems, it's the presence of Christ ruling within us even while problems remain. The world often says I'll have peace when everything settles down. Jesus says Let my peace settle your heart first. Throughout June we've been learning to walk with God. We've discovered His presence, His wisdom, His guidance, His Word. Today we discover another precious gift, His peace, not peace that depends upon perfect circumstances, but peace that grows because Christ Himself reigns within us. Perhaps today something is disturbing your heart, a difficult conversation, an uncertain future, a burden you're carrying. Can I gently encourage you before trying to control the situation, ask Christ to rule your heart, because when he governs your heart, peace begins to replace fear. Here's today's sentence to carry with you. Peace isn't found when life becomes quieter. It's found when Christ becomes the ruler of your heart. One small word captures today's whole passage rule. Paul doesn't simply pray that we experience peace occasionally. He tells us to let the peace of Christ rule. The original picture comes from the world of athletics. It describes an umpire making the final decision, settling disputes, declaring what is right. I find that image incredibly helpful. Every day our hearts hear many voices. Fear says what if everything goes wrong? Pride says you must stay in control. Anxiety says think about it one more time. Discouragement says nothing will ever change. Then Christ quietly speaks My peace. Paul invites us to let his voice become the deciding voice, not because life is simple, but because Christ is Lord. This is not positive thinking, it is surrendered living. Notice too that Paul speaks about the peace of Christ, not simply peace in general, the world offers temporary calm whenever circumstances improve. Christ offers something deeper, his own peace, the same peace that remained steady during storms, during opposition, even on the way to the cross. That peace now becomes the inheritance of every believer. As we've journeyed through June, everything continues building beautifully relationship, presence, listening, stillness, wisdom, trust, scripture, spiritual sight, love, joy, now peace. Each step is shaping not merely our behavior, but our hearts. Perhaps today the Holy Spirit is inviting you to stop asking how can I control this and begin asking how can I surrender this to Christ? Because peace grows wherever Christ truly reigns. Let's pray together. Father, thank you that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Thank you that his peace is stronger than our fears and deeper than our circumstances. Teach us to surrender every anxious thought to him, help his peace become the ruling influence within our hearts. May we trust him more than our worries, love him more than our need for control, and rest in the quiet confidence that he remains Lord over every part of our lives. In his precious name. Amen. Before you continue with your day, think about one area where your heart feels unsettled. Now quietly pray, Lord Jesus, rule over this part of my heart. Sit quietly, allow his peace to become the loudest voice. Walking this today. Notice. Where am I allowing fear to rule instead of Christ's peace? Pray Lord Jesus, let your peace rule in my heart today. Remember peace isn't found when life becomes quieter. It's found when Christ becomes the ruler of your heart until tomorrow. Keep walking, keep surrendering, keep allowing the peace of Christ to rule your heart. I'll walk with you again tomorrow.
